Is Witness free?+
Yes. Anonymous users get 5 image scans per day. Create a free account for 15 image scans and 3 video scans per day. No credit card required.
What happens to my images?+
Scanned media may be retained to improve our detection models. See our privacy policy for details. You can opt out or request deletion at any time by contacting privacy@witness.vision.
Why does Witness say "Inconclusive"?+
When detection signals are mixed, Witness tells you it isn't sure rather than guessing. This is intentional — a wide uncertain band reduces false positives. Try a higher-resolution version for a clearer result.
The extension isn't working on a site.+
Some sites (like TikTok and Instagram) block the right-click menu. Use the "Scan page" button in the Witness side panel — it works on any site. Or right-click anywhere and choose "Open Witness" first.
Can I use Witness verdicts in court?+
Witness is a strong first signal, not certified forensic evidence. For legal proceedings, pair a Witness scan with a qualified digital forensics expert.
Does Witness work on videos?+
Yes. Upload a video on the web app (up to 50 MB). For videos over 30 seconds, a trimmer lets you select the segment to check. The Chrome extension can also scan videos — use the "Scan page" button or right-click on sites that allow it.
What can't Witness detect?+
Witness may miss face-swap deepfakes in composite videos (e.g., a real person reacting to AI-generated content). Audio deepfakes and AI-generated text are not yet supported. We're honest about these limits.
