Bengaluru Police Arrest Man Over AI Video of Fake Blast at Vidhana Soudha

Bengaluru police arrested a 25-year-old man from Bihar over an Instagram video that used AI visuals to show a fake explosion at Vidhana Soudha.

Bengaluru police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Bihar's Araria district. He is accused of creating and posting an Instagram video that used AI-generated visuals to show an explosion at Vidhana Soudha. The building is the seat of the Karnataka legislature. No blast took place.[1]

What Happened

The video opened with real footage of the area in front of Vidhana Soudha. It then cut to fabricated AI visuals of a massive explosion at the building.[2] Several social media users tagged Bengaluru Police and demanded action. The account that posted it has since been deactivated.[1]

Police said "an edited video of blast was uploaded on Instagram social media, and a case has been registered in Vidhana Soudha police station."[3] A police social media monitoring officer spotted the video during routine digital surveillance. Vidhana Soudha police then registered a First Information Report.[1]

Investigators then analysed IP logs and other digital traces linked to the account. That work led them to the accused's residence in Bengaluru. He had worked in the city as a daily-wage pipe fitter for a few months.[2] Police confirmed the arrest on October 21, a day after the video appeared online.[1]

Police Inspector S.P. Kumar Swamy registered the case under Sections 353(1)(b) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. These sections deal with statements that can cause public mischief. The accused is in custody and is being questioned about his motive. Investigators are also checking whether anyone else helped create or edit the video.[1] The allegations have not been proven in court.[4]

Why It Matters

Vidhana Soudha houses the Karnataka legislature and is a high-security government facility. The Statesman notes that false claims of an attack on such a location can create panic. They can also raise security concerns.[1] The building has faced a false alarm before. In October 2022, a 41-year-old software professional called the chief secretary's office and claimed a bomb had been planted there. Police suspected a hoax and traced the caller within hours.[2]

Authorities also cautioned the public not to share fabricated content that shows attacks on major government buildings, The Daily Jagran reported.[4]

MediaNama also points to other AI-fabricated content in India. In November 2025, a car exploded near Delhi's Red Fort. Afterward, an AI-generated video of a man claiming to film the aftermath circulated as genuine, MediaNama reports. It had been posted by an account that described itself as an AI video creator.[2]

What to Do

Police have warned against creating threatening or misleading content using AI. The Statesman adds that the case underlines the need to verify the authenticity of videos before sharing them on social media.[1]

  • Pause before sharing any video that claims to show a blast, attack, or threat at a public building.
  • Look for confirmation from police or established news outlets before believing or sharing the clip.
  • Watch for clips that begin with ordinary, real-looking footage and then shift into a dramatic event. A real opening does not make the rest of the video real.
  • If a post looks designed to cause alarm, report it to the platform and to local police rather than reposting it.
